How to Cure Dandruff Permanently and Naturally

Dandruff is harmless and has nothing to do with hygiene but can be embarrassing for people to have white flakes around their heads and shoulders. When your hair gets dry or greasy, your scalp produces white flakes of dead skin.

With the production of oils by your scalp, these white flakes clump up together and become dandruff. However, that is not the only reason for dandruff generation. Dandruff can be caused by different reasons. These reasons include dry skin, eczema, sensitivity to hair products, and overgrowth of yeast-like fungus.

This yeast-like fungus can be caused by stress, hormones, immune system problems, or too much oil produced by your scalp. The remedy for dandruff varios greatly due to different causes needs different approaches to the problem. You just need to test what works best for you.

Here are some ways you can get rid of your dandruff problem:

Managing stress

Stress causes many health and beauty problems, and one of them is dandruff. Learning to manage your stress is very important, and I will write a post on ways to deal with stress. But for now, it is important to know that dandruff can be caused by stress.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is antiseptic, anti-fungal and antibiotic which help manage the production of yeast, eczema and other reasons why you may be dealing with dandruff. As tea tree oil is one of the best ingredients for dealing with dandruff, most shampoos for dandruff have tea tree oil as its main ingredient.

Add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil into your regular shampoo. It is important not to add too many drops of tea tree oil, as it can damage the skin causing rashes or allergic reactions when not diluted.

Coconut Oil

Recently coconut oil has been very popular for hair care, skin care, and cooking. It has been used as a cure-all ingredient, and there is a reason for it. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer, which in dandruff’s case helps soften the scalp and improve skin hydration. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties which in return can help get rid of dandruff and itchy scalp.

Aloe Vera

Another great moisturizer is Aloe Vera. It helps hydrate the skin and hair. When applied directly to the scalp it hydrates and softens the scalp which in return help alleviate the symptoms of dry and itchy skin and dandruff. Aloe Vera also has antibacterial and antifungal properties which could help protect the scalp against dandruff.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Adding apple cider vinegar to your hair wash routine will surely help your hair. It gives shine and strength to your hair. But did you know, apple cider vinegar also helps with dandruff problems? The acidity of vinegar helps stimulate the scalp and shed off dead skin cells. There are different ways to add apple cider vinegar to your routine.

  • Add a couple tablespoons of ACV to your shampoo and shampoo your hair normally
  • Mix apple cider vinegar with other essential oils and spray it on to your hair
  • Shampoo your hair how you normally would then pour a cup of apple cider vinegar down your hair. Wait for 5 minutes then wash your hair with water.

You will start seeing results after a month or so.

Aspirin

Aspirin has salicylic acid as its main ingredient which is one of the many main ingredients of medicated anti-dandruff shampoos. Salicylic acid helps the scalp get rid of skin cells. You can crush two aspirins to a fine powder and add it to your shampoo to see results. After shampooing your hair, leave it on for couple minutes, rinse well and wash again with plain shampoo.

Lemon

The acidity of the lemon helps keep dandruff off your scalp by balancing the pH levels. Massage 2 tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse it with water. Afterward, stir 1 tablespoon lemon juice into 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat this daily until your dandruff disappears.

Lemongrass oil

Lemongrass oil is rich in anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties making it a perfect remedy for dandruff. When applied to hair lemongrass oil also helps hair growth and stops hair loss. Here is a nice recipe to get rid of dandruff and itchy scalp.

  • A cup of distilled water
  • 2-3 drops of lemongrass oil
  • 2-3 drops of rosemary oil
  • half a cup apple cider vinegar

Mix all the ingredients together and apply it to your hair and scalp, massage it all over your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse it water, do not shampoo the hair. Use this recipe twice a week and watch your dandruff problem end.
